My, how time flies. I took a short hiatus... a little over a year ago. Well, I'm back at it, and I once again encourage you to join me, fellow composers!
I'd also like to add that I'm considering other ways of posting scores besides Noteflight for those who don't want to join that site. I think a .pdf of the score and an .mp3 of playback would achieve what we're looking for, so if anyone was put off by the Noteflight thing, let's give it a go with this other method.
This coming week: piano rag, take 3. Again, it could be a few bars or a whole piece, beginner or virtuoso. Have fun. I know I'm really looking forward to doing a little more composing!

A place for composers to play!
The Composers' Playground is a project of one J. Scott Olsen, who likes to write music and simply wanted an open, fun, and interactive way to share music online. Among other things, I'll be posting a style or theme each week (or so) and then writing something to fit that style or theme. (For example: medieval motet, American folk tune, or blues shuffle.)
Do you compose? Then contact me and join in! I'm hoping this will be a fun way to explore the approach, techniques, and sounds of different composers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. It might also help motivate you (and me!) to compose more often.
There are two ways to post your music. One is to simply upload a .pdf or .jpg of the score and an .mp3 of the audio. Personally, I'm using a very cool online ("cloud") music notation program called Noteflight. Its basic functions are offered for free and it allows the embedding of scores within web pages, as you can see at the right. So join my blog, join Noteflight (or don't), and write some music with me. To join, email me at playground@jscottolsen.com.
